Solar Panels
Solar panels are used to harness energy from sunlight. They are typically used for supplying power to homes and sometimes businesses, but they can also be used in a number of other applications as well. While they have been around for many decades, it hasn’t been until recently that they have gained widespread popularity.
Solar panels are made from an array of photovoltaic cells. These cells, most often made from silicone, do not provide a great deal of power individually, but when linked can be used to generate high amounts of electricity. If not used directly, this electricity can be stored in batteries for later use.
Solar panels can seem quite expensive at first, but that cost can be significantly reduced through a variety of government incentive programs. These programs most often appear in the form of tax incentives and subsidies through local, state, and federal programs. And considering these panels can provide free electricity for many, many years (most have a 25 year warranty); homeowners are finding that they are well worth the investment.
